St. Clair Roofing Frequently Asked Questions

Q. When is the best time to put on a roof?

A. There is no best time to put on a roof. St. Clair Roofing installs roofs year round and there will be no difference in quality, look, or longevity whether the roof is installed in January or July.

Q. What about attic ventilation?

A. The perfect times to fix, upgrade, or maintain the correct balance of air flow/ventilation in your attic is at time of roof replacement. St. Clair Roofing will inspect your attic and make any necessary recommendations. Attic ventilation is a major factor in how long your roof will last.

Q. Do you use staples or nails?

A. Though many companies use staples to install their shingles, because it is cheaper, St. Clair Roofing only uses treated roofing nails specifically made for roofing only. We use six nails per shingle, and four nails per cap shingle.

Q. What is an ice dam?

A. An ice dam is an area on the roof that tends to build up with ice. Poor ventilation and constricted drainage areas are causes of ice dams. We can often eliminate ice dams through ventilation. Every St. Clair Roof is designed to eliminate any interior leakage as a result of ice dams.

Q. What if it rains during my roof installation?

A. When St. Clair Roofing does your roof, and rain is in the forecast we often will hold off. If it happens to start raining while we are already into installation, we always have tarps on hand to ensure nothing gets damaged.

Q. Will my plants and lawn get damaged?

A. How about rusty nails? St. Clair Roofing takes pride in protecting your plants and shrubs. We realize how important they are to you. We protect your yard with tarps and even run an industrial magnet roller throughout your yard as part of the clean-up process to assure no hidden rusty nails.

Q. Does St. Clair Roofing work year-round?

A. Yes, and in some years we install as many roofs in the winter as we do in the summer.

Q. Can a new roof lower my utility bills?

A. A new roof, per say, will not lower your utility bills, but a properly designed roof and ventilation system will absolutely lower your utility bills by removing summer heat and winter humidity from attic spaces. St. Clair Roofing will do an attic inspection and insulation calculation free of charge, upon request.

Q. Do I have to be home during the roofing work?

A. No. All work will be done on the outside of your home so we do not have to come inside.

Q. Do you accept credit cards?

A. Yes. St. Clair Roofing accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.
